Brightlingsea-based Grassroot Media has reached a major landmark across its football, rugby, cricket and bowls club network as Wivenhoe Bowls Club celebrates 100 years.

Grassroot Media has installed the 150th digital screen in its UK grassroots sports network at Wivenhoe Bowls Club, which is itself celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

The portrait digital noticeboard and sponsor screen was installed inside the Wivenhoe clubhouse in August, bringing together 2 significant local milestones under 1 roof. Wivenhoe Bowls Club was founded in 1926 and is celebrating its centenary throughout 2026.

A digital communications platform for the club

The new Grassroot Media clubhouse screen provides Wivenhoe Bowls Club with a prominent digital noticeboard that can be used to keep members and visitors up to date with club news, fixtures, events, competitions, social activities and membership information.

The club can also use the display to recognise its own sponsors and promote the organisations supporting it. Alongside the club’s content, the screen carries advertising from Grassroot Media’s national and regional advertisers.

Grassroot Media operates digital screens in grassroots football, rugby, cricket and bowls clubhouses around the UK, giving advertisers an opportunity to reach active, social audiences while they spend time in the clubs they play for, support and regularly visit.

The screens complement Grassroot Media’s established poster network and are designed to benefit both sides of the model. Participating clubs receive a digital communications platform for their own use, funded through national advertising, while advertisers gain access to audiences in trusted grassroots sporting environments. The wider geographic spread can be explored on the Grassroot Media club network map.

Grassroot Media reaches 150 screens

“Reaching 150 screens is a really significant milestone for us, and it feels particularly fitting that screen 150 has gone into nearby Wivenhoe Bowls Club in the year it celebrates its own 100th anniversary.”

Mat Court, Managing Director of Grassroot Media, said the milestone reflects how the original idea has developed into a national network across football, rugby, cricket and bowls.

“The important thing for us is that the screen has to work for the club as well as the advertiser. For Wivenhoe it becomes a digital noticeboard and sponsor screen which they can use to communicate with members and everyone visiting the clubhouse, while for advertisers it provides access to a highly engaged audience in a very distinctive setting.

“We have always believed that grassroots sport offers brands something different. These are places people choose to spend their leisure time, often for several hours at a time, with teammates, friends and fellow members. Reaching 150 screens is a great marker of how far that idea has come.”

Celebrating Wivenhoe Bowls Club’s centenary

Peter Wilby, Website Manager and Management Committee Member at Wivenhoe Bowls Club, said:

“Our centenary is a chance to celebrate the club’s history while also looking forward. The new screen gives us another way to keep members and visitors up to date with everything happening at the club, from competitions and social events to club news and membership information.”

Wivenhoe Bowls Club remains active beyond the main outdoor season, with social activities and indoor bowls continuing throughout the winter.

Centenary membership offer

As a centenary offer, new Full or Associate members joining from August 2026 will not need to renew their membership until January 2028. That allows new members to enjoy the remainder of the 2026 outdoor season and the club’s winter programme before their next renewal.

Further information about the club and membership is available at wivenhoebowls.club.

The installation means that a club founded 100 years ago is now home to the latest addition to a growing modern media network, connecting 2 very different Essex milestones in the same clubhouse.
